FuelCell Energy, Inc. and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), a subsidiary of Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad, have inked a historic Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with the goal of revolutionising hydrogen production systems and technologies across the Asia-Pacific region. The JDA, which is based on a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2023, represents a significant shift in the collaboration between MMHE and FuelCell Energy. The partnership aims to combine MMHE’s extensive experience in large-scale fabrication with FuelCell Energy’s state-of-the-art solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) technology, which uses electricity to split steam into hydrogen and oxygen. Large-scale feasibility study for a Malaysian low-carbon fuel facility
According to the JDA, MMHE and FuelCell Energy have been awarded a sizable contract to conduct a Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) for a low-carbon fuel production facility in Malaysia. This facility uses water and carbon dioxide as its primary inputs to produce low-carbon fuels using SOEC technology. By evaluating the feasibility of these production methods, the study will pave the way for the development of ecologically friendly, scalable hydrogen systems.
Additionally, collaboration with KBR LLC, which will supply its own low-carbon fuel synthesis technology, will be part of the feasibility study.
